Engine mounting systems accomplish two basic functions:
1. Constrain motion
2. Provide vibration isolation and noise reduction
To provide the first basic function the mounting system must be stiff to minimize relative motions. To minimize transmitted vibration (or noise), the mounting system must be dynamically soft.
